Daffodils and St David's Day

To contact us Click HERE
Saint David's Day (Welsh: Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Sant) is the feast day of Saint David, the patron saint of Wales, and falls on 1 March each year. The date of March 1st was chosen in remembrance of the death of Saint David on that day in 589, and has been celebrated by followers since then. The date was declared a national day of celebration within Wales in the 18th century. The term "Taffy", used as a nickname for people from Cardiff and by extension from anywhere in Wales, is sometimes thought to originate from the name of the river. In Wales, it’s said if you spot the first daffodil of the season, your next 12 months will be filled with wealth.

Symbolizing rebirth and new beginnings, the daffodil is virtually synonymous with spring. Though their botanic name is narcissus, daffodils are sometimes called jonquils, and in England, because of their long association with Lent, they’re known as the “Lent Lily.”A Field of Golden Jonquils cardDaffodil (Background Removed) cardDaffodil Against Blue Sky cardDaffodil Birthday Wishes cardWishing You A Wonderful Day cardHappy Birthday - Lent Lily cardScrap Book Jonquils cardHappy Birthday - Wild Jonquils card

Lore connecting the daffodil to not only a sign of winter’s end but a lucky emblem of future prosperity is found throughout the world. In Wales, it’s said if you spot the first daffodil of the season, your next 12 months will be filled with wealth, and Chinese legend has it that if a daffodil bulb is forced to bloom during the New Year, it will bring good luck to your home.

It's 10 O'Clock. Do You Know Where Your Patient Data Is?

To contact us Click HERE

If nothing is more important to a healthcare provider than caring for the well-being of patients, protecting patients’ personal information runs a very close second. Patient care is guided by the Hippocratic Oath but it is also heavily regulated by HIPAA mandates requiring that provider organizations keep a watchful eye to safeguard patient data too.

If your organization uses email to transmit patient billing files, you are likely subjecting precious data to potential compromise. The causes of possible data leakage through email are vast including human error, system hacking and unauthorized access. All around, transmitting patient billing files using email is a high risk procedure that comes with enormous consequences should the method fail.

That’s why Emdeon ExpressBill Services is designed to protect patient billing information throughout statement printing and mailing and especially when files are initially uploaded from the provider’s patient billing system.

The key to our data protection? Emdeon leverages a password-protected File Transfer Protocol (FTP) site which allows customers to transfer files to this secure site ensuring only the provider and Emdeon can access the files. This method is like an armed guard escort leading the file directly from one locked safe to the next reducing the risk of misdirected, leaked or intercepted data. Our eye on file security doesn’t stop there. After the files are uploaded, they are automatically scanned to evaluate data integrity and file completeness. Another bonus? Data can be sent 24 hours a day, seven days a week and customers have the flexibility to select whether file processing should start in real time or on a pre-determined schedule.

Keeping sensitive data protected and secure is at the core of Emdeon’s business. Did you know that Emdeon powers the single largest financial, administrative and clinical information exchange in the U.S. healthcare system? Recently, Emdeon opened the second of two new data centers that serve as the central nervous system for the largest and most powerful network in healthcare. With a Tier 3 infrastructure, these centers allow us to provide a single, interactive and standards-based transaction processing and analytics platform.

Take a comprehensive look at your patient billing data processes. Do you see any potential leaks in the system? Call 877.EMDEON.6 (877.363.3666) to learn more about Emdeon ExpressBill Services!

this tie tack: I grew up reading Aviation Week in the 60s so I actually remember what kind of a plane this is!

This was a mid-60s Army project for a vertical takeoff/landing jet. Idea was to augment jet thrust by sending exhaust through ejection chamber in center of airplane but it didn't generate much extra thrust. It crashed, then the Air Force modified it into the XV-4B Hummingbird II which used pure lift engines instead, and that crashed too.

Later the Lockheed F-35 JSF using a shaft-driven fan looks like it will be a winner in generating more thrust than just the jet.  The Ryan XV-5 was somewhat similar but use fans in the wings with half-garbage can lid covers. It crashed too trying to demonstrate it could lift a dummy with a rescue winch -- that got sucked into the fans.

What's News: Microsoft Surface

Microsoft Surface Looks like Windows 8 iPad with standard keyboard.
Surface was the name for Microsoft's big touch table with cool effects like a water pond which was never shrunk down to a tablet.

Here is a skeletonized highlights:

Microsoft's new Surface tablets make a solid first impression

By Ed Bott | June 19, 2012, 12:26am PDT Summary: Microsoft’s new Surface tablets are exquisitely engineered, and no one can accuse them of being me-too products. Yesterday’s launch was impressive, but it also left many questions unanswered.

Monday, at an invitation-only media event in Los Angeles, Microsoft got the tech press to do something almost unprecedented: wait with eager anticipation for a Microsoft product announcement. Even more astonishing is that the reveal lived up to the hype. .... The signature feature—one that probably has some Apple product designers wondering “Why didn’t we think of that?”—is the magnetic cover that snaps firmly into place and doubles as a keyboard. The Touch Cover (3 mm thin) comes in an assortment of bold colors and includes a full-size keyboard with slightly raised keys and a trackpad.  The Type Cover, at 5mm, uses the same layout, but with keys that have the travel you would expect from a conventional keyboard. To appreciate the clever design and solid working of the magnetic latch, you really have to try it. There’s also a kickstand integrated into the case itself. Snap it open to rest the tablet open at a 22-degree angle, which is ideal for watching a movie, chatting via webcam, or typing. ..Microsoft kept this project secret, with not a single leak. One executive told me that the team working on Surface started its work three years ago, at the same time that development began on Windows 8. Using the trademark of an already-established product helped, as did a windowless lab protected by the kind of security normally reserved for government agencies with three-letter acronyms. ...Of course, one could make the case that a single Surface device is actually two devices in one—a tablet and a keyboard-equipped notebook. If prospective buyers accept that proposition, then a “competitive” price will seem like a bargain. ...How will Android device makers react? The current crop of Android-powered tablets is incredibly weak compared to the iPad. The new Surface designs offer another point of comparison where Android falls far short. See also:

(Credit: Josh Lowensohn) ...The Surface tablets will be available in two distinct versions. The Windows RT version -- which is effectively the "light" version of Windows 8 -- will launch with Windows 8 in the fall, and run on an ARM CPU. While it won't have the full desktop version of Windows 8 (it runs only the "Metro" apps available through the Windows app store), it will include a version of Microsoft Office at no additional charge. Surface RT tablet key specs
    • Windows RT operating system
    • Nvidia ARM CPU
    • 9.3mm thick
    • 676 grams/23.85 ounces
    • 10.6-inch ClearType HD Display
    • 31.5 watt hour battery
    • Ports: microSD, USB 2.0, micro HD video, 2x2 MIMO antennae
    • Storage options: 32GB and 64GB for Windows RT
    • Front and rear-facing "HD" cameras
    • The Pro will offer the full Windows 8 OS running on an Intel Ivy Bridge CPU (the same chips found in ultrabooks and other laptops). In addition to the beefier CPU and operating system, the Pro will be slightly thicker, offer a more robust battery, boast better peripheral support (USB 3.0 versus 2.0, DisplayPort, and SDXD expansion slot), and twice the storage capacity as the RT version. Expect it to cost more, of course. Surface Pro tablet key specs

Pixar Brave IT'S FREAKING LOVE STORY DANG IT!

What ANOTHER Pixar movie with no Asian parts????? ........

AUGH I just saw this movie, and NONE of the critics got what it was about. It is not about feminism. This is maybe Pixar's first grown up movie that hits on the level of Sleeping Beauty or Beauty and the Beast.

protagonist = Merida the archer girl, easy

villain = the bad brother bear, not too hard

love interest = .... ready??....THE QUEEN.

NOT the 3 suitor guys although the middle guy might be a passable surfer dude type.

You know how the Beast has to make Belle love her to break his curse? Well, while the little girl Merida loved her mom, she hated her mother so much as a rebellious teen, she was selfish enough to get a with to put her curse on her mother, with the fine print "mend what was broken".

OK, I saw it coming that what was broken was the relationship with her mother, and that was what would have to be mended. Before long, Merida protects her mother by showing momma bear how to fish, and against her father who just thinks she is a bear. Merida also finally uses her training from her mom to make a speech to bring the clans back together. Finally in the big fight scene, momma bear fights to protect her cub/daughter. Only when Merida breaks down sobbing "I love you mother" is the spell broken, just as Belle shows she finally fell for Beast, bringing him back to life. Tangled pulled the same trick at the end.

Overall, the movie looked a lot like Avatar in scenery and willo wisps, Miyazaki with female protagonist, Tangled (I liked that mother better) B and Beast, and Mermaid (deal with witch again, spell conditional on achieving love) and much less than the usual playful Pixar story, though somebody else noted that Nemo was a father-son story.

Mother's day clip:

Watch for the automated message menu operated by putting in different labeled potions as a modern cultural reference.

Nobody remembers that other nearly-forgettable Disney movie that was probably the nail in the coffin of declining animated musicals, Brother Bear in which the native hunter is turned into a bear for the needless killing of a mother bear. I don't remember if the guy changed back into a human though.

Young Kids Shouldn't "Brave" Disney's Latest
Thursday, June 21, 2012
The Disney-Pixar partnership has produced some of the greatest animated movies of all time, and their new release “Brave” looks especially appealing, with its medieval Scottish setting and spunky, flame-haired heroine. But consumers should understand that this ambitious film, despite superb artistry in its animation, is so dark and disturbing that young children may become deeply uncomfortable while watching it. Read the full article

    1. "Brave" reviews are in: What do critics think?

CBS News‎ - 3 hours agoDisney-Pixar's latest film, "Brave," opens Friday to mostly positivereviews Read more by Amethyst Tate on CBS News' Celebrity Circuit.
"Youngsters with a taste for adventure will no doubt overlook the movie's workmanlike outlines and applaud its spirited, self-reliant heroine, who proves to be as appealingly unruly as her tumble of Titian curls," explains Ann Hornaday, Washington Post.
"The Pixar name used to mean something. And it never quite meant pleasantly safe, safely forgettable movies like this," writes Stephen Whitty of the Newark Star-Ledger."It's a lively, psychologically astute tale filled with humanity, wit and charming performances," writes Claudia Puig of USA Today."This Celtic-themed story hews so closely to classic fairy-tale tropes, it's the studio's most Disney-fied production yet," notes Sara Stewart, New York Post."'Brave' isn't a bull's-eye, but it's close enough," writes Tom Long of the Detroit News."Leave the kindergarteners at home, and take your tween daughter to this one, if she is willing to be seen in public with you," explains Willie Waffle of wafflemovies.com."Brave" is easy to like but hard to love, a feel-good fable with the latest bells and whistles," Joe Williams of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch writes.
    1. Review: Pixar's 'Brave' is familiar feminist fable with vibrant visualsMLive.com‎ - 11 hours ago
A brief, but important aside: I saw “Brave” in 3-D, which was detriment to its beauty. Imagine wearing sunglasses to the Art Institute of Chicago. All that wondrous color, dimmed considerably. The movie’s shadowy, woodsy setting and torchlit castle interiors must be stunning without those stupid glasses compromising the brightness of the images. ..
She stuffs Merida in a corset and hides all that hair, trotting her in front of the trio of kilted dude-bros, who exhibit various degrees of dipstickedness. Like her mountainous father Fergus (Billy Connolly), the would-be suitors prefer to brawl and bagpipe and bellow in their burly brogues, lifting their kilts to moon their rivals.
The men and their uncouthness are the big butts of the screenplay’s comedy. And Merida’s triplet kid brothers are future buffoons, being general agents of mild mayhem. Makes sense, considering “Brave” aspires to be a you-go-girl modernist fairy tale. Her sex is intellectually superior here, and seriously so. But the screenplay only goes partway towards developing Merida as a strong, confident female character. She’s more of a standard rebellious youth than a feminist figure.
